Let’s face it: pinning images all day can get boring, quick.
Sure, it’s easy enough to add a photo of a new recipe or craft project, but if you’re looking to use Pinterest as a marketing tool for your blog or website, you’re going to need some help.
That’s where Tailwind comes in.
Tailwind is one of the best-known apps for Pinterest, but it does more than just scheduling pins. With this awesome tool, you can pin from anywhere on the web, upload your own images, schedule pins for the best possible time, measure your performance, and supercharge your growth with Tailwind Tribes.
Whether you’re new to Pinterest or a seasoned pro, with these Tailwind basics you’ll go from newbie to ninja in no time flat.
6 Tailwind Features You’ll Flip For
When getting started with Tailwind, there are six main features you need to know about to get the most from your experience.
1. Pin from anywhere with the browser extension
With the extension installed, post content conveniently, as you find it on the web. See all the shareable images on a webpage with one click and schedule as many as you like to your queue. Click the Schedule button on any image online to add content to your queue in seconds. If you want to schedule all the images on the page, click the tailwind icon in the browser bar, to select one or many and click Go Schedule.
The browser extension also makes it easy to re-pin from Pinterest or regram from Instagram. Click the Tailwind icon on any Pinterest pin to add it to your queue. Or, click the Tailwind icon in the browser bar to re-pin multiple images from the same page.
All selected re-pins show up in a popup as drafts. From here, you can edit the pin description, set boards for each pin (single or multiple), or use Add Board to All to bulk-populate all repins to the same board. Then, add all drafts to your queue at once by clicking Schedule all Drafts.
2. Scheduling as smart as you are
Tailwind’s smart schedule feature takes all of the guesswork out of your scheduling process.
Gone are the days of picking a perfect time for every post!
Tailwind will analyze your pinning patterns and audience behavior to pick the best times to post, tailored specifically to you and your audience. On the schedule page, green timeslots are those that Tailwind has created for you, optimized for your account. Grey timeslots are those you’ve added yourself, whereas green-outlined time slots are additional optimized time slots that are available for you to add.
With Tailwind, there are two ways to schedule: add to your queue, or schedule a specific date and time to publish your post. Scheduled posts are noted in the calendar grid on the right with a small clock icon, meaning these can’t be reordered or shuffled. Click Switch to Auto-Queue on a scheduled post to add it to the next available posting timeslot.
Easily rearrange your schedule with drag and drop. On the right-hand side of the Scheduled Pins page, you’ll see a calendar grid of your pins for each set posting time. Drag and drop any post to move it to a different time slot. Or, click Shuffle Queue to rearrange all of your pins in a new, randomized order. No matter what, you are in full control of what pins are published when.
3. Add pins your way
One of the best parts of Tailwind is your ability to add content from anywhere. We’ve already learned how to add already-existing content from the web, but now we’ll dive into how to add fresh and new content to your Tailwind account.
Plus, Tailwind has content curation tools built in. Easily find the best content for Pinterest with trending content suggestions as you browse with the Tailwind browser extension. Plus, with visual content search in Tailwind, you can build new Pinterest boards and quickly discover relevant viral content.
4. Grow faster with tribes
Tailwind Tribes is maybe my favorite part of the whole platform. This feature creates a never-ending supply of relevant content at your fingertips. Like a group on Facebook, Tailwind Tribes unite you with like-minded people in your niche to grow faster together. Tribemates share content with their tribe, and by sharing each other’s content, everyone reaches a larger audience. If you’re new to Tailwind, and you join my tribe, you’ll also receive a free month of Tailwind Plus!

5. Monitor your performance
I believe that Tailwind has some of the most powerful Pinterest analytics available. With this tool, I can easily measure my performance on Pinterest, going way past the typical vanity metrics that you see with most tools.
In your Insights tab, track followers and engagement, as well as trends for repins and comments. Analyze virality and fan engagement levels over time to make sure that your pins resonate with your audience. Interest heatmaps show me whether I’m focusing on the right content for my audience and identify where improvements could be made.
6. Drive traffic to your site
Finally, what’s amazing about Tailwind is its ability to connect to your website and deliver in-depth traffic and activity data that you wouldn’t see anywhere else.
Connect your website to Tailwind to see what people are pinning from your website. Or, engage with the latest pins from your website in real time to see pinning trends.
Finally, sync your Google Analytics account to see referral traffic to your website, to create a greater picture of how your pinning efforts are driving traffic to your website and contributing to your conversion goals.
Use Tailwind to Crush your Competition
With these six features in your arsenal, you’ll be perfectly positioned to beat out your online adversaries. When you can add content from anywhere on the web, schedule content the smart way, upload your own media, speed up your growth with tribes, and monitor your performance over time, what’s not to love?
